What to do with Camcorder DV Video?
Walkthru of Converting Video from DV Tape to XVID AVI’s
Installation of Tools
If you do not have them already, you will need to download and install the following tools. All of these can be downloaded for free for the full versions (though I’m sure the authors would appreciate a donation).
WinDV – An excellent piece of freeware that can be used to import video from a DV Camcorder via a Firewire port. This can be found here: http://windv.mourek.cz/
VirtualDub – The best video processing tool in town: http://www.virtualdub.org/
DubMan – A batch Automator for VirtualDub: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dubman/
This allows you to process large numbers of AVI files one after the other without human intervention – for example over night. This is important as you are likely to have many files. (General info on DubMan here http://dubman.sourceforge.net/) Quite a bit of this site doesn’t seem to work too well.
XVID – The codec of choice for the discerning video punter here: http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html
(General info on XVID here; http://www.xvid.org/General-Info.19.0.html)
Avisynth – Download from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/AviSynth_download.htm
(General info on Avisynth here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AviSynth.htm)
Smooth De-interlacer – Download from here: http://www.guthspot.se/video/files/DeinterlaceSmooth.zip
(General Information here: http://www.guthspot.se/video/#deinterlacesmooth)
Lame MP3 Codec used to compress the audio. This can be downloaded from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/LAME_ACM_Codec_download.htm
Download and install all of those.
